Having being interested in Architecture for several years I have developed a particular interest in neoteric and ecological architecture. Urban areas such as Manchester should encompass ecological architecture which I believe the MSA has strived to do, with the construction of the new Business School and Student Hub winning the Sustainability Award in the 2012 Concrete Society Awards. With the studio design projects developing creative processes and the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad I believe that MSA will develop my qualities as an individual designer and increase my awareness on a subject I have enjoyed for years. Studying under the MSA will allow me to pursue my idealised career and sculpt myself as an individual. Unfortunately I don’t have much time or money to visit some of the places that I would like, however the sixth form I attend was one of the first new academies to be build under the recent academy plan. The RSA Academy was the first of its kind to be designed specifically for the opening minds curriculum. Having firsthand experience in this radial new design I believe that it was meticulously designed and the function of the school has worked effectively. The function of the structure however has not impacted the aesthetics. The school has three glassed walls which allows light and heat into the corridor, a clean and modern white is used throughout and clashed effectively with green, yellow, blue and orange depending on location of the room.  The opening minds layout that is used in majority of the classrooms allows for classrooms to be joined by moving walls and hexagonal tables split into two can be tessellated in multiple ways that can be used in different contexts whether it be in a large group in the centre or individual groups of 1-6 students. A truly efficient design. Peter Clegg is recognised as a pioneer in sustainability and has 30 year experience in low energy architecture. As a founding partner in FCB Studios and the wide range of design work they do is inspiring from work in Africa to work in the Education sector here in the UK. Dubai has always been a place in which I have looked at and loved.  They have set multitudes of records with their creative and innovative designs most famously with the Burj Khalifa. To visit Dubai and to experience in person the incredible architecture such as the Burj Khalifa and the Burj al Arab is something that I personally would love to do.
